Things I've learned (some of them re-learned) this semester:
1. Torturing oneself over a paper (or any other major academic requirement at that which requires lots of coffee and thinking and no sleep) is actually pleasurable. I get to see myself think, see my ideas get through, come to life and get dressed, and properly at that. Managing As over soup or a fried, drunken mind just doesn't look glamourous anymore, it looks phallic.
2. But cramming is as glamorous as ever, and its awesome results are still there.
3. Talking to middle-aged bourgeois history teachers can be one of the most grounding things on Earth. For that matter, history and the study of it is a matter of perspective. It is not the facts which pervade throughout history but the perspectives that look upon them.
4. It is one thing to be blessed with a teacher who is extra-lenient to the point of being called an "easy-A" teacher. It is quite another to endure a semester with a highly incompetent noob who passes off as the former by giving tons of bonuses to the point of implying that her students are total ditzes who can't answer her questions for shit and have to be babied throughout a fucking college final exam, let alone a whole course. There is a fine line between both such persons.
La travestìa de justiçia académica.5. The universe, one's life, the themes one experiences, and styles of writing excellent papers as well as other academic and extra-curricular activities always follow a single, coherent, transient trend; and it is imperative that one find or discover at least the semblance of it.
6. Keeping this in mind leads to major ownage in school, life, sex and love. And most other things, I am bound to predict.
7. There is a reason successful long-distance relationships are the exception, not the norm. You may be godlike proficient in communicating, and smart to boot, but ultimately, the thing which makes all the difference is your presence, not your proficiency or your prowess.
7.1. Translated, this mostly means: in studying any other language, it is DISASTROUS to incur even one absence, let alone to maximize one's absences.
8. When you cause negative experiences, the world goes on. It is important that you let it.
9. There will come a time when you will meet something you like best and excel at it the best, and where others . If you do not hold on to it immediately, your life will be robbed of an awesome future.
10. People are predictably unpredictable. As always, change remains constant.
11. What life presents to you to be the most challenging can prove to be the most rewarding. And what is the most challenging is not always the hardest or the hopeless.
12. If you can be consistent in thinking that a day ended without being dead tired is a day ended with leftover potential forever untapped, you can be consistent in a lot of things.
13. Thesis-antithesis-synthesis is not limited to the literary sense. It is universal.
14. It is not so surprising that man is driven to mass dramatic action over the most trivial things, from irk at Jewish ancestry to irk over a simple, inane dress code. What holds more weight are the circumstances present.
15. There are some people (and things, of course) you totally can do without.
15.1. Likewise, there is a limit to effective leadership. When you've done your part, you've done your part.
16. In some cases, a lot of the people one is sexually attracted to often find him/her equally, if not even more sexually attractive. Hence a little more boldness that what Filipinos are usually capable of is in order. But this does not give him reason to think ALL of them are after him; don't push one's luck. In the end, it's hit-and-miss; but worth it.
17. Studying other people's culture can prove to be most relaxing, profound and edifying.
18. I can survive in the corporate world. For that matter, I can own it.
19. If you write down your most sincere (and yet somewhat feasible) wishes on a makeshift marble table, using a paintbrush soaked with water, most of these wishes will actually come true.
20. There are times when you can percieve signs that "inexorably" and "overtly" point to the possibility of the thing you want most, meaning it can actually happen and will happen soon. It is important to be prudent at such times. Remain optimistic, but don't start the habit of expecting. In pop culture,
baka ma-jinx. (:
21. A dream is a wish one's heart makes when he/she is fast asleep. ♥
22. Impossible is nothing. ♥
